Copy and content as mindful as your rituals
When you’re running a sustainable indie beauty business, you don’t have time to educate your freelance writers on the difference between ‘vegan’ and ‘cruelty-free’. Or explain which terms stray into greenwashing territory.
It’s easier when you work with a copywriter who just gets it. Who understands how every product description, email sequence and About page fits into your overall mission.
A copywriter who sticks to the brief but also isn’t fazed by when priorities shift (it happens).
My first priority in any new copywriting project is getting to know your brand, your voice, your audience and how you’re making beauty better, one refill, one upcycled ingredient or one waterless formula at a time.

For certain tasks, and in skilled hands, large language models (LLMs) can be very helpful. I integrate AI into some of my workflows, including: repurposing existing content, brainstorming (although take its suggestions as a starting point), summarising customer reviews and reducing word counts.
That said, we need to be mindful of AI’s limitations and not use it to replace critical thinking. A robot can’t identify your USP, plan your content strategy, nail the perfect voice for your brand personality or write original, human-sounding copy that resonates with your audience.
And let’s be honest: LLMs are famous for making stuff up. When ChatGPT first came out, I experimented with using it to research and write a blogpost about beauty marketing fails. It looked great. At first glance. But when I dug into it, I realised all the compelling case studies were completely fabricated. Lesson learned.More concerningly, AI has been shown to perpetuate racial and gender biases, greenwashes and consumes a huge amount of energy and water.
